Becoming Buddies: Summer & Alicia
When did you and your buddy get paired?
Summer: I'd say Alicia and I got paired as buddies in mid-late 2013.
Alicia: Mid 2013.
What interests do you two have in common?
Summer: Alicia and I have a lot in common. For example, we both like 5 Seconds Of Summer and One Direction. We both love Youtubers. Markiplier and JackSepticEye we both like. We were also huge fans of Our2ndLife when they were a thing.
Alicia: We both like similar YouTubers.
How do you benefit from your friendship?
Summer: I think I benefit from being friends with Alicia because we have gone through similar obstacles in our lives so we can give advice to each other. Alicia is very kind and treats people how they should he treated and has never made me feel uncomfortable. She's always been such a great friend to me.
Alicia: I learned more about Tourette’s and have someone I can rely on.
Have you ever video chatted or met in person?
Summer: Alicia and I have video chatted a bit. We text most of the time. The first time we met in person was two years ago, April 25th 2014. Alicia came to Florida with her band to play at Disney and I don't live too far from there so I thought why not meet her? We planned to meet up at the Hard Rock Café in City Walk at Universal Orlando. Once we saw each other it was a little awkward but we hung out for 5 minutes and then she had to get back to band so then we had to say good bye. Now two years later she graduated high school and I told her she should come visit me for graduation and soon enough we had all the information and she was going to come in August. She's been here for a couple days and is leaving tomorrow I'm so glad I've had this opportunity to share with her. Monday, August 8th - Friday, August 12th
Alicia: Yes we have video chatted and met in person!
What is your favorite memory with your buddy?
Summer: My favorite memory has to be her coming to visit me for the past week. We've done so much and made so many memories.
Alicia: My favorite memory was meeting her for the first time.
Do you have any advice for people who want to sign up for a buddy?
Summer: My advice to anyone signing up for buddy project would be: do it. You won't regret it. You'll make best friends with some if the greatest people on Earth. Also, don't give up in that friendship because you might actually meet them one day. You'll never forget that day.
Alicia: You should definitely do it. It’s just like having a pen pal, but through the internet.
Do you have any advice for people going through mental health problems?
Summer: My advice for anyone going through mental health problems would be: don't give up. There are so many people in the world who are going through the same thing or already has. Reach out to someone for help. It doesn't make you seem weak, it makes you look stronger because you know what you need to do to help yourself. Stay strong.
Alicia: Talk to somebody and get the help. You deserve to be happy. You are not alone :)
