Choose to be Happy by Kendall Bistretzan

I choose to be happy every day,
But every day
My racing heart attempts to convince me
All may not be well.
It keeps me from sleeping,
Happy
But uneasy.
I choose to rise each day,
But each day
An unseen magnet attempts to pull me
To lie down and stay.
Risen,
But exhausted
I choose to live my days to the fullest,
But every night
My whirling mind plays back moments
And creates new ones.
In these moments
I can’t help but hate myself.
I choose to be happy.
I choose to rise.
I choose to live.
But sometimes my illness has other plans.
